why massage therapy?

Almost everything we do with our horses involves movement. Massage therapy is a modality that seeks to improve the quality of movement that is possible by affecting the health and functioning of the neuro-musculoskeletal system.

Massage therapy is used to find tightened muscles, areas of tension, congestion and restriction, and works to restore the tissues to a more healthful state. The techniques used can reduce tension in muscles and break down adhesions that develop in the connective tissues. Blood circulation is also increased, improving the delivery of oxygen and nutrients to the tissues and aiding in the removal of metabolic wastes such as lactic acid.

Equine Massage Therapy can applied in the treatment of a specific problem or injury to help encourage a full recovery, reduce rehabilitation time and address compensatory issues. It can also be valuable component of a regular maintenance program to promote the optimal functioning, use and development of the musculoskeletal system, helping to prevent future injury, enhance athletic performance, and extend an athletic or recreational career.

benefits of massage therapy:

  • Assists in early detection of stresses and strains
  • Improves the quality, efficiency and symmetry of movement
  • Supports better joint health and function
